Curation Standards

Taste (味道 Wèidào / 滋味 Zīwèi)
Depth, complexity, and balance. Does the tea evolve across steeps, offering a dynamic, layered profile? Does it express the essence of its terroir?

Mouthfeel (质感 Zhìgǎn / 口感 Kǒugǎn)
The physical sensation of the tea. Is it smooth, rich, structured? Does it coat the mouth, feel silky or velvety, or leave an astringent bite? How does the texture change as the tea lingers?

Balance (平衡感 Pínghénggǎn)
Harmony between taste, aroma, and mouthfeel. Do all elements interact seamlessly, with no one aspect overpowering another? Is it structured yet fluid? Does it feel sharp or aggressive, or is it smooth and rounded, without harshness?

Aroma (香气 Xiāngqì)
Scent beyond the sip. How does the aroma interact with the palate? How long does it linger in the breath?

Clarity (清晰度 Qīngxīdù)
Precision of expression. Are the flavors distinct and unclouded? Does the tea communicate its origin through taste and aroma?

Aftertaste / Resonance (回味 Huíwèi / 喉韵 Hóuyùn)
What remains after swallowing. Does the tea’s essence unfold in waves? Does it leave a lasting presence on the breath? Is there a returning sweetness (回甘 Huígān)?

Depth (深度 Shēndù)
The tea’s soul. Is there a lingering quality, an unspoken depth that invites further exploration? Does aging enhance its character?


Terminology

Terroir (风土 Fēngtǔ) – The environmental factors (soil, climate, altitude) that shape a tea’s character.
Returning Sweetness (回甘 Huígān) – A delayed sweetness that emerges after swallowing.
Resonance (喉韵 Hóuyùn) – The lingering sensation and depth of flavor that remains in the throat.
